When Hollywood imagines the future, from Logan’s Run to Avatar, it tends to picture living spaces as sterile and characterless, without any cultural clues to the person who lives there. No record library, no DVDs, no Hemingway on bookshelves … often no bookshelves.
And here we are, catching up to that vision of the future. Sales of physical books dropped 30 percent last year, while...
“Today we can have our homes and our cars and our clothes any color we like - without any reference to nature or to anything more symbolic than the fashion world’s decisions about what colors are “right” for the next season. And so perhaps it is not strange that we do not seem to need or even want to be reminded of their history anymore. I could understand what Herbert was...

2011 has been the best year I could remember post childhood. It was the year I learned the most about myself because I loved school: the wonderful friends I’ve met and my amazing classes. I’ve met inspiring people who have really shaped the way I think and will continue to influence me. I traveled to another continet to meet up with a great friend. I put all the effort in my work and...

M: You could also buy these chains in India to tie around your luggage so when people people try to steal you stuff, you can hear them rattle.
M: I really suggest bringing ear plugs so you can sleep on the train because it's really loud.
K: Then how can you hear people steal your shit.
M: You sleep with one eye open and with a knife in your hand.
M: I also recommend bringing toilet paper because there might not always be toilet paper. Also you can bring those wet wipes or tissue because students don't like carrying a role of toilet paper around.
M: When you land in Delhi, wait for me by the bar. By bar, I mean that long thing.
M: Don't walk out of the airport. I'll find you guys. It shouldn't be that hard because when I see people dressed weirdly, I'll know they're from RISD.
M: Remember, tights are not pants. No leggings either. No shorts and short skirts for girls and boys too.
M: You can bring more underwear if you want. I also recommend bringing one of those collapsable duffle bags if you're a shopper.
M: It's pretty cold there right now. I called my friend and he was like, "It's pretty cold."

It’s shocking that December is one week from today.
I’ve never questioned so much or thought so deeply of life or my life from September til now.
Yup, I’m just really happy about school and for who I’ve met & what I’ve learned, experienced, questioned.
I met up with my parents in New York for the weekend and then they came to visit me in Providence for just a day. I can’t explain how happy I am right now!
But now I’m sad because I miss them.
And because I have to face homework.
Isn't it funny how while we're losing ancient...
And how Apple and Blackberry are named after something so natural but they are nothing like the fruit.
So it seems that language is no longer created based on the need for interaction.
The new words we’ve created from the internet have no richness or history behind them.
Both technology and language have become a part of our culture.
I think it’s a little scary that technology...

If it weren’t for my major, I wouldn’t use the internet as much. Yup. Like right now, especially when my final is due tomorrow.
